Melbourne Tool Company Large Router Plane

The Melbourne Tool Company Large Router Plane is designed for woodworkers who value simplicity, comfort, and precise, predictable results. Whether refining a groove, levelling a dado, or cleaning up a rebate, this router plane gives you effortless control and a crisp, flat-bottomed finish every time.

Ergonomics & Ease of Use

Comfortable Maple Handles
The large maple handles are shaped for a natural, comfortable grip, giving you confident control from any angle. Their smooth, balanced feel allows for extended use without fatigue, while the wide sole keeps the plane steady and true through every pass.

Uncomplicated Design
Minimalist in form but highly functional, the router plane is quick to set up and intuitive to use. Knurled brass knobs provide a secure, positive grip and adjust smoothly. The tool disassembles easily for sharpening and maintenance, and reassembles in seconds — simple, robust, and built for daily workshop use.

Blade Design & Sharpening

Straight 50-Degree Blade Geometry
Unlike most router planes, the MTC Large Router Plane uses a straight square-section blade set bevel-down at 50 degrees. This gives an ideal cutting angle for both with-the-grain and cross-grain work, delivering clean, flat results with no chatter.

Sharpening Without Fuss
Because the M2 HSS blade is a single piece of straight steel, it sharpens as easily as a mortice chisel. Simply remove, hone, and reset — no jigs or specialist tools required.

Build Quality & Performance

Durable Brass, Steel & Maple Construction
Precision-milled brass fittings, a robust steel body, and hardwood maple handles combine to create a plane that feels solid, balanced, and built to last. Every component is engineered for long-term reliability and accuracy.

M2 High Speed Steel Blade
The M2 HSS blade offers exceptional edge retention and abrasion resistance, holding a sharp edge far longer than O1 steel. It may take a little longer to hone, but rewards you with extended edge life and consistent performance.

Blade Options

The plane is supplied with a 12.7 mm (1/2") blade and can be fitted with additional sizes for different joinery tasks:

  • 3 mm
  • 6 mm
  • 8 mm
  • 10 mm
  • 12 mm
Owner’s Manual & Packaging

Each plane arrives securely boxed with protective foam and includes a QR code linking to the Melbourne Tool Company Owner’s Manual. The guide covers setup, sharpening, and maintenance — helping you achieve reliable, repeatable accuracy from day one.
